What's the Big Deal With K-pop?

I have been a kpop fan for about five years now. However, I never really went out of my way to proclaim my love for kpop. I always had the feeling that I was gonna get judged, or that people will think I'm weird. Even at that time, I wondered myself what exactly made me get into kpop. Now, I decided to look deeper and figure out what exactly is so great about it. After all, once you get sucked in it, there's really no way of getting out.

Here, I've listed the top 6 reasons why people like kpop. (Well, at least for me. I'm sure many other fans out there can agree with these statements.)

6. Variety of Interesting and Catchy Music

Kpop is basically a genre of music originating from South Korea. It consists of popular music that branches out to other types of genres like pop, rock, electronic, ballads, hip-hop, etc. Because of these different genres, kpop groups are able to produce a variety of music that have fun, upbeat sounds enabling them to captivate their listeners. Even if one group's particular musical style doesn't attract you, there's a good chance that another group will.

2ne1 has a music style that mainly focuses on electronic dance sounds.

F.T. Island is mainly focused on pop rock.

5. Talented Artists

There's no doubt that kpop idols are extremely talented, especially since majority of them spent years cultivating their skills. I'm pretty sure the hardest task that comes with being an idol is singing and dancing at the same time, besides the lack of sleep, but that's for a different topic. Though I'm no dancer, I know that it takes a lot of stamina and conditioning in order to dance the way they do. And as a person who loves to sing, I understand my need to stay still in order to project my voice properly. These two things seemed to contrast in my opinion, yet kpop groups have basically perfected these skills, combining them in order to execute a much more intriguing and enjoyable performance. If the music doesn't lure you in right away, the dancing probably will.

 4. Memorable Choreography

This leads me to my next reason, which is captivating dance moves. Different groups have portrayed different choreography to go along with their hit songs, which fans are able to enjoy and attempt to learn. Not only are they fun to dance, it also brings people together as it creates an opportunity for friends to bond over a certain hobby that they enjoy. Yayy for kpop bringing people together. (^^)

3. Interesting Concepts

Another thing that's fun and interesting in the kpop world is the concepts or styles that kpop artists portray for their comebacks. It's the element of surprise that keeps the fans anticipating for what's to come next from their favorite groups, which is pretty fun. Some groups would have a cute concept, than later comeback with a fierce or sexy style. Artists would get extreme makeovers or change hair colors, and you never really know what they're going to come up with next. This not only involves makeovers, but also costumes, choreography, musical style, props, etc. that all come together in one harmony to make the perfect stage.

2. Eye Candy

This leads right to the next topic, which is eye candy. We can't deny the fact that we're naturally drawn to good looking or attractive people. And Kpop' s got plenty of that. Fans just naturally come to admire their idols' facial features, well toned bodies, mesmerizing beauty, and whatever other features they have that makes you wonder what planet they came from.

1. Personalities

Last but not least, or probably the most important of all, kpop idols have personalities that makes them even more attractive in the eyes of their fans. A lot of them may carry a fierce/cool image on stage, but once they're out of the costumes and makeups, they show their true forms: they're human beings just like the rest of us. They show their goofy side, joke around with their group members, and it makes you want to be a part of that. (Which of course, you can be by being a part of their fandom xD) They are humble because they know where they came from, and they're extremely hard working. They are always busy, barely gets enough sleep, yet they still make every effort to please their fans and not have them worry. There's a mutual feeling of love coming from the artists to their fans, and from fans to the artists.
